Banana Shpeel, the latest circus-infused piece from the Cirque du Soleil portfolio, has pushed back its previously announced preview dates at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The new production, directed and written by David Shiner, will now begin performances on March 17 (instead of the previously announced February 25). This is the second time the production has shifted its preview dates for more rehearsal time “to integrate new performance elements.”
The show is described as a roller-coaster mix of styles that blends comedy with tap, hip hop, eccentric dance, slapstick and Cirque du Soleil acrobatic acts—plus madcap characters spreading chaos in all directions.
Banana Shpeel is presented by Cirque du Soleil and MSG Entertainment, which oversaw a lavish restoration of the historic Beacon Theatre.
