Additional stars have been announced for the world premiere of Paradise Found at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory. In addition to the previously announced Mandy Patinkin, the production will feature an all-American cast, including Kate Baldwin and a trio of Tony winners: John Cullum, Shuler Hensley and Judy Kaye. The production, jointly directed by Tony winners Harold Prince and Susan Stroman, will begin performances at the Menier on May 19 and officially open on May 26.
Baldwin recently finished a run on Broadway in Finian’s Rainbow. Her other Broadway credits include Wonderful Town, Thoroughly Modern Millie and The Full Monty.
Cullum is currently starring in off-Broadway’s The Scottsboro Boys, directed by Stroman. He is a Tony winner for On the Twentieth Century and Shenandoah and a nominee for 110 in the Shade, Urinetown and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
Hensley won a Tony Award for his performance in Oklahoma!. His other Broadway credits include Young Frankenstein, Tarzan and Les Miserables.
Kaye won a Tony Award for her performance in The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Prince. She received a Tony nomination for her work in Souvenir and has appeared on Broadway in On the Twentieth Century, Mamma Mia!, Ragtime and Sweeney Todd.
Based on the novel The Tale of the 1002nd Night by Viennese author Joseph Roth, Paradise Found features a book by Richard Nelson, lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh and music by Johann Strauss II, as adapted and arranged by Jonathan Tunick.
The show will feature set design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Judy Dolan, lighting by Howell Binkley and sound by Gareth Owen.
Paradise Found will play the Menier through June 26, 2010. Further casting will be announced shortly. A Broadway transfer of the show is expected.
