John Patrick Shanley’s new play Pirate and director Michael Mayer’s “re-envisioned” version of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever are among the highlights of the 2010 New York Stage and Film season at Vassar College’s Powerhouse Theatre. No casting has been announced for the popular summer series, which will run June 25-August 1.
Shanley’s play, which was seen in a reading at Powerhouse last summer, will receive a fully staged Mainstage production. The summer’s other Mainstage offering will be Tracy Thorne’s new play We Are Here.
On a Clear Day, featuring a score by Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe and a new book by Peter Parnell, will be presented in workshop form by Mayer, who previously workshopped American Idiot and developed Warren Leight’s Tony-winning play Side Man at New York Stage and Film. Also on tap is a workshop of the musical Bonfire Night by Justin Levine, directed by Alex Timbers.
The 2010 season will also include workshops of Seth Zvi Rosenfeld’s Handball; Maria Cassi and Patrick Pacheco’s My Life with Men and Other Animals, directed by Peter Schneider and featuring Cassi, an internationally known performance artist; and Keith Bunim’s Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir.
Two Readings Festivals will open and close the Powerhouse season, including new plays from Romulus Linney, Richard Nelson, Patricia Wettig and Stephen Karam and a new screenplay by Jennifer Westfeldt.
