A 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist will soon take the ring off-Broadway: Tickets are now available for Second Stage’s production of Kristoffer Diaz’s The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Directed by Edward Torres, the play, set in the world of professional wrestling, begins performances on April 27, with opening night set for May 10.
The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity is a comedy that dares to throw political correctness out of the ring. Macedonio “The Mace” Guerra is a middle-ranking pro-wrestler who may have discovered his ticket to the big time: a charismatic, trash-talking Indian kid from Brooklyn whom he recruits as the perfect foil to the All-American champion, Chad Deity. But when their rivalry is used to exploit racial stereotypes in the name of ratings, all three men find themselves fighting for much more than the championship title.
Featured in the cast are Michael T. Weiss as Everett K. Olson, Usman Ally as Vigneshwar Paduar, Terence Archie as Chad Deity, Desmin Borges as Macedonio Guerra and Christian Litke as Billy Heartland.
Torres' production, which included an onstage wrestling ring, began life at Chicago's Victory Gardens Theatre, where it received critical acclaim. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity is sure to be a comic power-slam, so get tickets today!
