New York Theatre Workshop has announced three of four productions in its 2010-2011 subscriber season. The previously announced revival of Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes starring Elizabeth Marvel and directed by Ivo Van Hove will kick things off in September. (The pair have collaborated five previous times, including acclaimed mountings of A Streetcar Named Desire and Hedda Gabler. The Little Foxes is a still timely study of greed, dishonesty and one generation’s unstoppable drive to ruthlessly exploit the resources of a previous generation.
Peter and the Starcatchers by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family) will be produced in February-March 2011, directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers. Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatchers will have a company of 12 actors playing 50 characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter become The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up?
Three Pianos, described as a music theater event written, arranged and performed by Rick Burkhardt, Alec Duffy and Dave Malloy will be produced at a date to be announced later. Directed by Rachel Chavkin, the show is a theatrical explosion of Franz Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle and explores the composer's music, life and times. The Pianos enjoyed a sold-out run at the Ontological Theater in March 2010.
A fourth production will be announced later. Claudia Shear’s Restoration, currently in rehearsals under the direction of Christopher Ashley, begins previews at NYTW April 30 and opens May 19.
