The cast of off-Broadway’s The Scottsboro Boys will record an original cast album on April 23 with a release date to be announced later. After a twice extended run, the show closed at the Vineyard Theatre on April 18. The album will be released by JAY Records.
The Scottsboro Boys features music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, a book by David Thompson and direction and choreography by Stroman. It uses the format of a minstrel show to explore the infamous “Scottsboro” case of the 1930s, in which a group of African American teenagers was unjustly accused of attacking two white women, and the boys’ attempts to prove their innocence. The Scottsboro Boys depicts one of the most important and notorious chapters in the history of the American Civil Rights movement.
The cast features Colman Domingo, Brandon Victor Dixon, Sean Bradford, Josh Breckenridge, Rodney Hicks, John Cullum, Derrick Cobey, Kendrick Jones, Forrest McClendon, Julius Thomas III, Sharon Washington, Christian Dante White and Cody Ryan Wise.
The show is headed to the Guthrie Theatre this summer.
