Denzel Washington Attracts a Stellar Slate of First-Nighters at Fences

From Spike Lee to Gabourey Sidibe, a heaping helping of bold-face names came out on April 26 to see Denzel Washington and Viola Davis open in August Wilson’s Fences. The Cort Theatre was humming with all the talent who crowded in for a true theatrical event, the first Broadway revival of Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. After the cheers died down, the good times continued at the Bryant Park Grill, with Denzel enjoying the evening in a sharp new black-on-black Yankees cap.
