The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Levi Kreis
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Million Dollar Quartet
“My partner was online watching the nominations while I was half listening, half pouring coffee and gritting my teeth—I didn’t know if I wanted to know or not. The minute I heard 'Million Dollar Quartet, Best Musical,' I just put the coffee cup down and buried my head in my hands. It was like two years of relief washing over me—I don’t even know how to process this yet! But the [nomination] that actually brought a little lump to my throat was [Million Dollar Quartet]’s Best Musical nom. After being part of the process of this musical since 2004 and seeing so many incarnations of the show, plus having so many amazing actors put their talent, vision and soul into the production, I feel that nomination blankets in and honors everyone who’s ever given themselves to this show. It’s been a long road to Broadway. I think it’s important for all four Million Dollar Quartet [stars] to portray these legendary musicians in a respectable and honorable way, and because of that that nomination is the greatest gift anyone, any of the four of us, could have. It’s right up there Rosanne Cash writing a hand-written letter to [co-star] Lance Guest about how dead-on his portrayal of her dad, Johnny Cash, is, or Carl Perkins’ son putting his blessing on [co-star] Robert Britton Lyons portrayal of his father. It says that all we’ve been trying to do since the beginning of this show is paying off.”
