The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Chad Kimball
Nominated for Best Actor in a Musical, Memphis
“Funny enough my cell phone had died and I emailed my publicist my phone home number, but accidentally gave her the wrong number! So I heard from my manager first, who coincidentally is named Tony, he called to say ‘Congrats’, then I called my publicist and she yelled, “You gave me the wrong number! I called someone in Queens and now they think they have a Tony nomination!” I was very excited and immediately wanted to know what else our show had been nominated for because I’m so proud of its entirety. I was very pleased to see Montego [Glover] was nominated and [director] Chris [Ashley]. My wisdom tooth has been coming in so I’ve been in some pain, so this has been a nice departure from the pain…it’s like taking a whole bottle of Advil! I’m glad the show opened so early in the season because we’ve been able to not worry about awards and just think about doing the show eight times a week, so it’s just a great feeling of accomplishment to have this come along now.”
