The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
David Bryan
Nominated for Best Score, Memphis
"This is pretty awesome as far mornings go! I set the alarm at 8:20 and turned the TV on. I almost had a heart attack! Announcing the shows in alphabetical order almost killed me because we weren’t first. Then they said our name and I thought 'We’re in!' It’s awesome to be nominated for [my first Broadway show]. It’s a great recognition to come into a world that’s completely different for me, but still know that a good song is a good song and a good story is a good story nonetheless. I thought [the show] was going to Broadway eight years ago and it’s amazing to see it go from an idea in your mind on to paper, to talking about it with people, to trying to raise a s**tload of money, and then to land at the Shubert Theatre…it’s just fantastic! I couldn’t sleep last night so I’ll probably get a little bit of sleep before talking to all the uncles, mothers, kids…everybody’s getting a call today!"
