The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Marcia Milgrom Dodge
Nominated for Best Director of a Musical, Ragtime
“I’m in L.A. directing How to Succeed for Reprise. When my phone rang at 5:45AM, it was my husband, in tears, listing everything. [Ragtime received seven nominations.] We are so thrilled we were remembered, because we were there so briefly. All of our designers got nominated, which really meant a lot to me because the physical production was so extraordinary, and their contributions made me look good. I couldn’t be more proud of everybody involved with the show. For me, [the Tony] is a personal triumph; it’s about being acknowledged by the Broadway community—and hopefully it will open some doors and bring me back to Broadway again soon.”
