The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Barbara Cook
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Sondheim on Sondheim
“My lovely press person, Philip, called and woke me up this morning with the news—I was asleep. It is indeed a nice way to wake up. He can wake me up once a year that way! I was very pleased, of course. People have been talking about [a Tony nomination], and naturally I hoped it would happen. But I do feel it’s such a team effort at the show. I think this honors all of us. It’s marvelous to be noticed in that respect by your colleagues and the people who understand what it takes to do this. What’s my favorite part of the Tony Awards? Winning! [Laughs.] I’m joking, darling. I’m not looking forward to anything about the awards in particular. I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
