The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Christopher Fitzgerald
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Finian's Rainbow
“I’ve been out of touch because I’ve been on kid duty all day. This morning a friend of mine texted me, ‘Congratulations, Chris!’ I was like, ‘I guess that means I got nominated? But maybe it was for something else?’ I did a concert last night at Joe’s Pub and thought it might be that. I checked and then Jessie [wife Jessica Stone] and I had about 30 seconds to be like, ‘Omigosh! That’s so great! Wow!” And then [son] Charlie was having a meltdown because he had to go to school, and the little one, Emmett, had really bad diaper rash. I got the news and then I had to wipe a butt. I’ve been getting some emails and calls and stuff, but basically, I’ve been hanging out with the two munchkins, who for some reason aren’t impressed. It’s weird. I thought they would be more excited, but they weren’t. I hope Finian’s has a party. A little reunion. It was a great company and great group of people. I’m really excited for Kate [fellow Finian’s nominee Kate Baldwin], and I’m excited for the show.”
