The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Kelsey Grammer
Nominated for Best Actor in a Musical, La Cage aux Folles
“I was in upstate New York this morning and got a call from my wife saying, ‘Congratulations—you got nominated!’ I was expecting Doug [Hodge] to get a nomination and the show to get a nomination. I wasn’t so certain about me. I thought it was possible, but I do believe that Doug will win the Tony this year. This show is such a celebration of theater—I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve felt so connected to an audience at the end of the night, where we’re all as happy as we can be to see each other. We’ve having a terrific time and it just gets better and better. To me, the Tony is about as good as it could possibly get. I always dreamed of being a Broadway brat. Maybe I waited a little too long to get there, but I’m certainly happy to be a seasoned veteran who’s finally being recognized by the Tonys. It’s really cool.”
