The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Jon Michael Hill
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play, Superior Donuts
“I was in the air [on a flight to L.A.] when [the nominations] came out, so I had my phone off. I turned it on when I landed and it started to buzz right away. I was actively trying to keep people that were talking about [a nomination] away from me. I didn’t want to know…if it happens it happens, and now it feels pretty great. It’s so rare to work on a project you love and for people to respond to it. I didn’t know much about the theater world until I got to college and now that I understand it, it’s incredible to [be included] with all the people who are nominated. What always inspires me is seeing other people’s work, when you feel blocked it only takes a night at theater to feel reinvigorated. I’m glad to represent [the Superior Donuts cast] and can’t wait to talk to them all. My friends are forcing me to celebrate, even if it might be short lived.”
