The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Kate Baldwin
Nominated for Best Actress in a Musical, Finian's Rainbow
“My alarm clock didn’t go off, so I woke up at 8:28 and I stumbled into the shower because I thought that I had to get down to rehearsal in time. As I was literally stepping out of the shower, my husband rounded the corner and very subtly said, ‘Well, you got one.’ And we did a little happy dance and then I watched the rest of the streaming nominations while I was streaming with water from my shower. When I saw my friend [and Finian’s co-star] Chris Fitzgerald get nominated and our show get nominated, I screamed and jumped up and down. Thank goodness I didn’t fall in a puddle of water! Then I went to rehearsal for Paradise Found—I was late and sweating with a red face—but when I got there, everybody was gathered around a big cake that said congratulations. They all started applauding and cheering. I’m surrounded by Tony winners and nominees in that room, so I finally feel worthy!”
