The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start ringing off the hook for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2010 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Lillias White
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Fela!
“I was sleeping this morning and heard singing—Adesola Osakalumi, one of the members of the cast, was singing me a voicemail message—and got up thinking, ‘What’s going on?’ The news was all there in his message, and that’s how I found out. I’ve been getting phone calls and text messages all day. I’m really looking forward to June 13. Actually, to be honest, I’m more looking forward to June 14! The Tony Awards come with a lot of pressure, press and extra rehearsal, so I’m most looking forward to the June 14, when I can relax. I am looking forward to hearing Fela! called for Best Musical, and to hearing my name. ‘And the Tony goes to….!’ I already made room next to the other Tony Award [for The Life] for its twin! Just being nominated means my work is still up to par with the level I want it to be, and that means a lot to me.”
