Jon Maran’s The Temperamentals, the off-Broadway play about a group of early gay rights activists, will close on May 30. The show, which recently received a Drama Desk Award for Best Ensemble Performance and a Lucille Lortel Award for star Michael Urie, will have played 11 previews and 91 regular performances.
The Temperamentals originated off-off-Broadway in the spring of 2009 before landing at off-Broadway’s New World Stages in February. The show follows a pre-Stonewall era closeted activist Harry Hay (Thomas Jay Ryan) who, along with his partner, designer Rudi Gernreich (Urie), and several other friends, attempts to advance societal equality. Arnie Burton, Matthew Shneck and Sam Breslin Wright co-star in the off-Broadway production, which is directed by Jonathan Silverstein.
