Tony Award nominee David Alan Grier and Kerry Washington will play their final performance in David Mamet’s Race on June 13. Co-star James Spader will leave the production on June 20. The play is set to run through August 21, with new cast members to be announced shortly. Original cast member Richard Thomas will continue in the show at Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre, directed by Mamet.
Race follows three lawyers (Spader, Grier and Washington) who find themselves defending a middle-aged, white businessman (Thomas) accused of a crime against a young African-American woman. The show opened on December 6, 2009, and became the first new Broadway play of the season to recoup its initial investment.
