Tony winner John Glover and Brighton Beach Memoirs teen star Noah Robbins will play leading roles in Primary Stages' forthcoming New York premiere of Jonathan Tolins' Secrets of the Trade. The play will open the off-Broadway company's 26th season, with performances beginning July 27 at 59E59 Theaters and opening night set for August 10. The show will run through September 4, directed by Matt Shakman.
Joining Glover and Robbins in the cast will be Amy Aquino, Bill Brochtrup and Mark Nelson. Secrets of the Trade centers on Andy Lipman (Robbins), a smart, ambitious Long Island teen who seeks help from his idol, theater legend Martin Kerner (Glover), in hopes that Kerner can help turn him into a Broadway star.
Glover is a Tony Award winner for Love! Valour! Compassion! and received a Tony nomination for Waiting for Godot. Recent stage credits include The Royal Family and The Drowsy Chaperone. Robbins made his Broadway debut in Brighton Beach Memoirs. Aquino’s stage credits include The Heidi Chronicles, Third and Love Diatribe. Brochtrup is best known for his turn as John Irvin on NYPD Blue and he has appeared on stage in Snakebit and Noises Off. Stage vet Nelson most recently participated in The Bridge Project’s staging of The Winter’s Tale, taking the show to seven countries.
Secrets of the Trade debuted at Los Angeles’ Black Dahlia Theatre in Los Angeles in 2008 with Aquino, Brochtrup and Glover among the original cast. The creative team for Primary Stages' production will include Mark Worthington (set), Mike Durst (lights) and John Gromada (sound).
