Sutton Foster, Zach Braff, Bobby Cannavale and Ari Graynor have signed on to star in the world premiere of Paul Weitz’s Trust at Second Stage. The play will begin previews on July 23 and open on August 12, directed by Peter DuBois. Trust is scheduled for a limited off-Broadway engagement, through September 5.
Trust is a dark comedy that explores the corrosive effect of power on relationships and the hope we need to make them better. The plot is described as follows: Harry is rich. Harry is married. But when Harry doesn’t trust any of it is enough, he looks to find something real in the most unlikely of places.
Foster is a Tony winner for Thoroughly Modern Millie and received Tony nominations for Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone and Shrek the Musical. Additional Broadway credits include Young Frankenstein, Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Grease. Foster co-starred in the recent Encores! production of Anyone Can Whistle.
Best known for TV’s Scrubs, Braff appeared onstage in Public Theater productions of Twelfth Night and Macbeth. On the big screen, he wrote, directed and starred in Garden State.
Cannavale received a Tony nomination for Mauritius and starred off-Broadway in Hurlyburly. TV credits include Cupid and Will and Grace. Film credits include The Station Agent.
Graynor’s stage credits include The Little Dog Laughed, Spanish Girl, Brooklyn Boy and Dog Sees God. Her many films include the current release Holy Rollers and Whip It.
Weitz is an Oscar nominee (with his brother, Chris) for the screenplay of About a Boy and co-directed the smash hit film American Pie, among other credits. His plays Show People and Privilege were produced at Second Stage.
Trust will feature scenic design by Alexander Dodge, costume design by Emilio Sosa, lighting design by David Weiner, and sound design by M.L. Dogg.
