The international hit musical Les Miserables is turning 25 this fall, and to celebrate, the show will be seen in three London venues: the Original Production at the Queen’s Theatre, a New 25th Anniversary Production at the Barbican Theatre and a gala concert on October 3 at the O2 featuring a company of more than 300 actors, including original cast members and stars from both sides of the Atlantic.
The starry anniversary concert will feature British tenor Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, American pop star Nick Jonas as Marius, Broadway favorite Norm Lewis as Javert, British comedian Matt Lucas as Thénardier, Tony winner Lea Salonga as Fantine, Les Miz vet Jenny Galloway as Madame Thénardier and Camilla Kerslake as Cosette.
The O2 Concert will also feature the casts of the original London production (still playing at the Queen’s Theatre) and the cast of the New 25th Anniversary Production, which has been breaking box office records across the UK. The new production will play 20 performances, September 14-October 2, at the Barbican Theatre, where the show originally premiered on October 8, 1985.
Seen by over 56 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 21 languages, Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Les Miserables features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and additional material by James Fenton. The original London 1985 production was adapted and directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The New 25th Anniversary production and the O2 Concert are directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley.
