The 64th Annual Tony Awards telecast, hosted by Sean Hayes, goes live on CBS at 8PM ET. Tony Award winners Karen Olivo and Gregory Jbara will host the 2010 Tony Awards Creative Arts Awards, the hour-long event that precedes the three-hour live telecast at Radio City Music Hall. The ceremony (available as a webcast) begins at 7:00PM ET and features the presentation of 15 of the 26 award categories. A Tony spokesperson declined to reveal which specific Tony races are included, but in recent years, the eight design awards and categories including Best Choreography, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical have been awarded during this pre-telecast ceremony.
Olivo won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance as Anita in West Side Story. In addition to the Tony, she was honored with a 2009 Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite Featured Actress in a Broadway Musical. She previously created the role of Vanessa in In the Heights and has also appeared in the Broadway runs of Rent and Brooklyn.
Jbara received the 2009 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in Musical for his turn as Billy’s Dad in Billy Elliot. His numerous Broadway credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Victor/Victoria, Chicago and Damn Yankees. Regionally, he has appeared in Little Fish, Precious Sons, House That Jack Built, First Lady Suite and Oscar and Felix. Film includes Remember Me, In & Out, Jeffrey, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Out-of-Towners.
