Carrie Fisher's autobiographical solo show Wishful Drinking is headed to HBO, according to The New York Times. A forthcoming small-screen documentary on Fisher will combine a performance of Wishful Drinking (which chronicled her Hollywood upbringing and battle with depression) along with archival footage and interviews with the Star Wars actress. Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey will direct the feature, including a performance of Wishful Drinking to be filmed on June 25 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in New Jersey. No air date has been announced.
Wishful Drinking began at L.A.'s Geffen Theatre in 2006 before being published as a memoir. A Broadway production opened at Studio 54 on October 4, 2009, produced by Roundabout Theatre Company, and played there for 118 performances. Fisher is the winner of the 2010 Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite Solo Performance.
