Lincoln Center Theatre will kick off its 2010-2011 LCT3 season with plays by Nick Jones and Nathan Louis Jackson. Jones’ The Coward, directed by Circle Mirror Transformation helmer Sam Gold, begins performances November 8 and plays through December 4, with opening night set for November 22. Jackson’s When I Come to Die, directed by In the Heights director Thomas Kail, takes the stage January 31, 2011, for a limited engagement opening February 14 and playing through February 26. Both shows will play the Duke Theatre on 42nd Street. Casting will be announced at a later date.
Set in 18th-century England, period comedy The Coward follows a cowardly young gentleman named Lucidis after he initiates a pistol duel. When Lucidis cannot go through with his stand-off, he hires a common criminal to fight in his place—a decision which leads to a bloody mess and a reputation the Coward cannot get control of.
Commissioned by LCT3, When I Come to Die tells the story of Damon Robinson, a death-row inmate who struggles to understand why his life has been spared after his schedule execution goes awry. The play reunites Jackson and Kail, who collaborated on Lincoln Center Theater's off-Broadway production of Broke-ology in the fall of 2009.
LCT3 is Lincoln Center’s programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and their audiences. Details on the season’s third production are forthcoming.
