Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s 2008 musical Road Show may find new life at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, according to The Daily Mail. The Chocolate Factory’s David Babani recently told the paper that the musical, to be directed by original off-Broadway helmer John Doyle, is on tap at the influential small theater, along with a Maria Friedman-helmed revival of Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. No casting or dates have been announced at this time.
Road Show, originally titled Bounce, follows the 40-year career of real-life real estate moguls turned crooks Wilson and Addison Mizner, whose adventures across America at the turn of the 20th century eventually led to the Florida real estate boom of the 1930s.
The Public Theater's 2008 production of Road Show starred Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris as Wilson and Alexander Gemignani as Addison, and featured Matthew Carlson, Alma Cuervo, Aisha de Haas, Claybourne Elder, Colleen Fitzpatrick, David Garry, Mylinda Hull, Mel Johnson Jr., Orville Mendoza, Anne L. Nathan, Tom Neilis, William Parry, Matthew Stocke, Katrina Yaukey, William Youmans and Kristine Zbornik.
Babani's Menier Chocolate Factory has launched productions such as the 2010 Tony-winning revival of La Cage aux Folles, this season's Broadway revival of Sondheim's A Little Night Music and the 2008 revival of Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George.
