Pop star Nick Jonas has extended his run as Marius in the London production of Les Miserables for two extra weeks, through July 24, due to a change in the Jonas Brothers’ world tour schedule. He will be joined on July 5 by Broadway vet Norm Lewis (The Little Mermaid, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Javert and on July 12 by Lucie Jones (X Factor) as Cosette.
In other Les Miz news, Love Never Dies star Ramin Karimloo has joined the show’s 25th anniversary concert at the O2 on October 3, which will feature a company of more than 300 actors from both sides of the Atlantic. Current London cast member Samantha Barks will play Eponine in the concert staging, joining previously announced stars Norm Lewis (Javert) Alfie Boe (Jean Valjean) Matt Lucas as (Thénardier), Tony winner Lea Salonga (Fantine), Jenny Galloway as (Madame Thénardier) and Camilla Kerslake (Cosette).
In celebrating its 25th birthday in October, Les Miserables will make theatrical history with an international first: three different productions in London at the same time. The original production (still playing at the Queen’s Theatre), the new 25th anniversary production at the Barbican (where the show originally premiered) and the O2 concert.
Seen by over 56 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 21 languages, Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Les Miserables features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and additional material by James Fenton. The original London 1985 production was adapted and directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The new 25th anniversary production and the O2 Concert are directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley.
