On July 18, after a 15-month run, Alice Ripley will give her final performance in one of Broadway’s most demanding roles: manic-depressive mom Diana Goodman in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal. Ripley won every accolade imaginable for her searing portrayal of a troubled wife and mother, including the Best Actress Tony Award, and she has more than earned a rest. (But not for long: She’ll headline the show’s 36-week national tour beginning on November 23 at L.A.’s Ahmanson Theatre.) This week, resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson turns his pen and ink to a true Broadway star in celebration of an indelible musical performance. Thanks for everything, Alice!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
