Kyle Beltran and Clifton Oliver will join previously announced incoming stars Jordin Sparks, Shaun Taylor Corbett and Jon Rua in Brodaway’s Tony Award winning hit In the Heights. Oliver steps into the role of neighborhood romantic Benny on August 16, replacing role originator Christopher Jackson, while Beltran takes over for current star Corbin Bleu as narrator Usnavi beginning August 19. As previously announced, American Idol Sparks makes her Broadway debut as Nina on August 19, following Taylor-Corbett and Rua’s entrance as Sonny and Graffiti Pete, respectively, on July 29. In the Heights is continuing its run at the Richard Rogers Theatre.
Beltran joins the Broadway cast of In the Heights straight from the first national tour of the production. Off-Broadway includes 10 Things to Do Before I Die, as well as regional work in Kingdom and Aida.
Oliver’s Broadway credits include Wicked and The Lion King. Off-Broadway, he has been seen in Miracle Brothers. Touring credits include Grease and Rent.
The new cast members join current players Marcy Harriell, Bianca Marroquin, Priscilla Lopez, Olga Merediz, Rick Négron, Courtney Reed, Tony Chiroldes, Dwayne Clark, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, Marcus Paul James, Nina Lafarga, Jennifer Locke, Doreen Montalvo, Noah Rivera, Eliseo Román, Gabrielle Ruiz, Rickey Tripp, Michael Balderrama, Blanca Camacho, Allison Thomas Lee, Alejandra Reyes and Marcos Santana.
In the Heights opened on Broadway on March 9, 2008, and won four Tony Awards (Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations). The show is directed by Thomas Kail.
