With last week's announcement that two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone will star in the upcoming Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and filming beginning on her new HBO pilot The Miraculous Year, we got to thinking about the juicy tidbits sure to be included in the star's upcoming self-titled memoir. Broadway.com asked what incident from the diva's oh-so-eventful life you're most looking forward to reading about.
Taking the top spot with 28% of votes is "The Sunset Boulevard Situation." LuPone famously created the role of Norma Desmond during the musical's London run. When the show was set to open on Broadway, LuPone was replaced by Glenn Close, resulting in an out-of-court settlement that funded what LuPone jokingly called the "Andrew Lloyd Webber Memorial" swimming pool at her Connecticut home.
Following in second place with 12% of votes are LuPone's thoughts on Broadway cell phone and camera etiquette. During her 2008 Tony winning run in Gypsy, LuPone halted the orchestra during the show's final number, "Rose's Turn," and delivered a tongue-lashing to an audience member caught photographing the performance. With 11% of votes, third place goes to learning about LuPone's star-making performance as Eva Peron in Evita, the role that scored the actress her first Tony Award.
Fans are also eager to learn about LuPone's career beginning: Fourth place (with 10% of votes) goes to hearing about her days as a student at Juilliard. Rounding out fifth place is a tie between her triumphant run as Momma Rose in Gypsy and creating the role of Fantine in the Tony-winning musical Les Miserables. Both earned 6% of votes.
