Neil Patrick Harris has landed himself a third Emmy nomination this year after an oversight by the TV academy revealed Harris' name had been left off the nominee list for hosting the 2009 Tony Awards, according to The LA Times' Gold Derby.
Hosts of awards shows used to be nominated on their own in the Outstanding Performance in a Variety Special category. That race however was eliminated last year and hosts are now supposed to be grouped with the award telecast's producers in the Outstanding Special Class Program (as Academy Award hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were). The producers of the 2009 Tony telecast landed a nod in the category, where Harris' (who even hosted last year's Emmy ceremony) name was mistakenly not listed.
Harris now has three opportunities at taking home an Emmy come August 29. He is also nominated for a fourth time for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for How I Met Your Mother and for his memorable guest turn as Bryan Ryan on Glee.
