Four-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell will star in Second Stage's off-Broadway revival of Arthur Kopit's Wings. The John Doyle-directed production will begin previews October 5 and open on October 24. The play will also feature Teagle F. Bougere, Beth Dixon, January LaVoy, Anne L. Nathan and Michael Warner.
Maxwell can currently been seen on Broadway in her Tony-nominated Lend Me a Tenor turn through August 15. She also received Tony nominations for The Royal Family, Coram Boy and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Her Broadway credits also include Sixteen Wounded, The Dinner Party, The Sound of Music, A Doll's House, Dancing at Lughnasa and City of Angels. She has appeared off-Broadway in Scenes From an Execution, Substitution, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, The Bald Soprano and A Bad Friend.
Bougere last appeared at Second Stage in A Soldier's Play and has also been on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun and The Tempest. Dixon's Broadway credits include The Royal Family, Major Barbara and Wrong Mountain. LaVoy recently made her Broadway debut in Enron, while Nathan has appeared in Sunday in the Park with George, Chicago, Assassins and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Warner was recently seen off-Broadway in The Language of Trees, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Distracted and Missed Connections.
Wings follows the adventures of Emily Stilson, a 1920s wingwalker who continues on with her daredevil stunts despite mental self-doubts. The show first opened on Broadway on January 28, 1979 and receieved a Tony nomination for Best Play, as well as a win for lead actress Constance Cummings.
