Tony Award nominee Marin Ireland will lead the cast of the Public Theater's forthcoming New York premiere of Lisa Kron’s In the Wake. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the production begins previews on October 19 with opening set for November 1. The limited engagement plays through November 21.
In addition to Ireland, the cast of In the Wake will include Jenny Bacon, Michael Chernus, Miriam F. Glover, Deirdre O’Connell, Susan Pourfar and Danielle Skraastad. The play is set at Thanksgiving of 2000 and the presidential election still has not been decided. Ellen (Ireland) insists that her friends and family don’t understand how bad the situation really is. But no one—not her loving partner, Danny (Chernus), nor the passionate Amy (Bacon), nor the brutally pragmatic and world-weary Judy (O'Connell)—can make Ellen see the blind spot at the center of her own politics and emotional life.
In the Wake received its world premiere at Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group (which commissioned the play) in March 2010 with Heidi Schreck as Ellen. O'Connell and Skraasted were part of the L.A. cast.
