Andie MacDowell will join Dennis Quaid, Julianne Hough and newcomer Kenny Wormald in the upcoming Footloose movie remake, according to EW.com. She will play Vi, the wife to Quaid's conservative minister. This will mark the second time MacDowell and Quaid have played spouses, after the 2001 TV film adaptation of Donald Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Dinner with Friends.
Production on the film is set to begin shortly with a planned release in April 2011. Craig Brewer will direct. Footloose follows the story of a young man who moves to conservative, religious town where his love for dancing is viewed as a threat by the locals. The original film starring Kevin Bacon opened in 1984 and became an instant hit along with its soundtrack. A 1998 Broadway musical adaptation ran for 709 performances and earned four Tony nominations.
