Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon is set to make her Broadway debut in Promises, Promises. The funny lady will succeed Tony winner Katie Finneran in the role of Marge MacDougall beginning on October 12. Shannon has signed on through December 26, the previously announced departure date of stars Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes.
Shannon is best known for her six seasons on Saturday Night Live, and her array of eclectic characters including Mary Katherine Gallagher and Sally O'Malley, as well as her parodies of Courtney Love, Liza Minnelli, Monica Lewinsky and Meredith Vieira. She was also seen last season on TV's Glee. Her many film credits include Superstar, Marie Antoinette, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Scary Movie 4, Never Been Kissed, Serendipity, Wet Hot American Summer and Osmosis Jones.
The Broadway revival of Promises, Promises opened at the Broadway Theatre on April 25 and stars Sean Hayes as Chuck Baxter, Kristin Chenoweth as Fran Kubelik, Tony Goldwyn as J.D. Sheldrake and Dick Latessa as Dr. Dreyfuss.
