American Idiot's Tony Vincent Sounds Off on Billie Joe Armstrong's 'Homecoming'

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is set to participate in a series of audience talkback sessions at American Idiot beginning September 14, and as always, the cast is ecstatic to welcome the Grammy winner back to the St. James Theatre. Armstrong (who co-wrote the show’s book with director Michael Mayer) will stick around for a week’s worth of performances. “From the beginning of this show there’s been such a mutual respect for what we all do,” Idiot star Tony Vincent told Broadway.com about his relationship with the famed rocker. “We both operate in such a different echelons and platforms, so there’s always this exchange of creativity, but also encouragement and validity in what we both bring to our individual arenas.”

While Armstrong has previously shared the stage with the Idiot cast at the Tony Awards, Grammy Awards and most recently Monday Night Football, Vincent is excited for him to take a fresh look at the Broadway production. “The show has continued to evolve and grow and change," he said of American Idiot, now in its fifth month of performances. "It’s really one of the coolest opportunities to have this push and pull movement because the music is so in your face. We’re not married to a [set] performance that leaves us uninspired; we get the chance to mix it up a little.”

Armstrong will appear after Idiot performances on September 14-17 and again on September 19. He will be joined onstage by director Michael Mayer.
