The 24th annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Flea Market and Grand Auction, which took place on September 26, raised a whopping $476,917 for the charity.
The 2010 flea market boasted 72 tables that took in a total of $239,342. Top earners were the Wicked booth, which took in $19,834 and the “Broadway Beat” booth, which earned $12,171.
In the silent auction category, the highest seller was an A Little Night Music “Soon” musical phrase, handwritten and signed by Stephen Sondheim that went for $3,500. Other big items were a “For Good” musical phrase from Wicked, handwritten and signed by Stephen Schwartz that went for $2,900, and a signed 2009 Broadway Season photo taken by Mark Seliger for Vanity Fair, signed by all the participants including Geoffrey Rush, Joan Allen, Marcia Gay Harden, Jeremy Irons, James Gandolfini, Matthew Broderick, Jeff Daniels, Nathan Lane, Susan Sarandon, Bill Irwin and more, that went for $2,000.
The main event was the grand auction, which took in $126,650. The top-selling lot, which went for $16,500, was a walk-on role in Wicked. Other big-ticket items were opening night tickets and party passes for How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe ($10,000) and a tank top worn by Daniel Craig in A Steady Rain, signed by Craig and Hugh Jackman ($6,500).
