The critically acclaimed London production of Bruce Norris’ Clybourne Park will transfer from the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs to a 14-week run at Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End. The play will begin performances on January 28, 2011, and open on February 8, directed by Royal Court artistic director Dominic Cooke.
The cast of Clybourne Park includes Lorna Brown, Sarah Goldberg, Michael Goldsmith, Lucian Msamati, Sam Spruell and Sophie Thompson, all of whom will move with the production. The actors play different roles in acts one and two of Norris' satire on the fault lines between race and property.
Set in a suburb of Chicago in 1959, Clybourne Park opens as Russ and Bev are selling their home at a knock-down price. This enables the first black family to move into the neighborhood, creating ripples of discontent among the white urbanites of Clybourne Park. In 2009, the same property is being bought by Lindsey and Steve, whose plans to raze the house and start again is met with a similar response, this time from the black residents of the gentrifying neighborhood.
Clybourne Park was originally staged off-Broadway by Playwrights Horizons in February 2010.
