After a two year absence from Broadway, Patrick Wilson will return for a one-night-only benefit reading of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart on October 18 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. “I’m only doing one-night shows from now on, so this worked out pretty well,” Wilson joked with Broadway.com. “It’s such a great play and I’m so excited.” Wilson will share the stage at the reading with Victor Garber, Joe Mantello and Michael Stuhlbarg, among others.
So what will it take to get Wilson to commit to more than just a single performance on Broadway? “I’m always looking; it’s just finding the right show,” he said. “I’d love to do another musical, but it’s tough to find a great role that feels very different from other things I’ve done. That’s why I think I tend to gravitate towards old plays and musicals. About every two years I get the itch to come back, so we’ll see.” Wilson last appeared in the 2008 revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons opposite Katie Holmes, Dianne Wiest and John Lithgow. He received Tony nominations for Oklahoma and The Full Monty.
While Wilson may not be taking the stage full time himself, he's eager to one particular show: Angels in America. Wilson starred as Joe Pitt in the 2003 HBO miniseries adaptation of the Tony-winning plays, now being revived at off-Broadway's Signature Theatre. “I can’t wait," he said. "Christian Borle [who plays Prior Walter] is one of my best friends, and Zachary Quinto [Louis Ironson] and Billy Porter [Belize] are alums of my alma mater, Carnegie Mellon, so I’m very excited for my college. I never got to see it on stage, so it’s going to be a thrill.”
