There's no stopping the teenagers of McKinley High! The cast of Glee recently surpassed the Beatles for the most appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart by a non-solo act, according to the AP. The six numbers performed on last week's Britney Spears themed episode pushed the show's number of charted songs since its 2009 debut to 75, overtaking the Beatles' total of 71. Fittingly, the show featured the early Beatles hit "I Want to Hold Your Hand" on its latest episode.
While the group may have overtaken the Fab Four, there are still two music icons ahead of them for the top spot. Elvis currently reigns as king with 108 songs to have charted on the Hot 100, followed by James Brown with 91. Glee also now ranks above Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. The show has sold more than 2.8 million albums from its various soundtrack editions and 11.5 million downloads.
The Beatles may no longer hold their record, but fans of the group need not cry: the band will get the Broadway treatment this fall with the upcoming Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles.
