Atlantic Theater Company has announced complete casting for its forthcoming double bill of Harold Pinter’s The Collection and A Kind of Alaska. The plays will begin previews on November 3 and open on November 22 at Classic Stage Company. (Atlantic’s main-stage Linda Gross Theater is closed for the season for renovations.) The limited engagement is scheduled to continue through December 12, directed by Karen Kohlhaas.
The cast will include two-time Tony nominee Larry Bryggman (Proof, Picnic, Prelude to a Kiss, Atlantic’s Romance), Matt McGrath (Cabaret, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Lisa Emery (Present Laughter, Gabriel, Dinner with Friends), Rebecca Henderson (The Retributionists, The Misanthrope) and Darren Pettie (Butley, Hobson’s Choice).
In The Collection (1961), a 4:00AM phone call and a surprise visitor set off a series of conversations about potential infidelities among two couples. And in A Kind of Alaska (1982), inspired by Oliver Sacks’ Awakenings, a middle-aged woman who has been asleep in a hospital room awakens after 30 years and must reorient herself to a greatly changed world. Atlantic previously found success with a 2005 double bill of Pinter’s first and last plays, The Room and Celebration.
The Collection and A Kind of Alaska will feature scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Bobby Frederick Tilley II, lighting design by Jason Lyons and sound design by Obadiah Eaves.
