Stephen Sondheim’s most recent musical, Road Show, will be produced at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory in summer 2011, according to Variety. John Doyle, who directed the show at the Public Theater in 2008, will helm the Menier mounting. In addition, the company will present a revival of Merrily We Roll Along at Christmas 2012 as the directing debut of Maria Friedman, who starred in a previous production.
Road Show, which features a book by John Weidman, is a musical biography of the colorful Mizner brothers, who designed and built oceanfront mansions in Palm Beach, Florida. Doyle’s New York premiere production starred Michael Cerveris as Wilson and Alexander Gemignani as Addison Mizner.
Sondheim’s 80th birthday has inspired a number of British productions of his shows, including an outdoor mounting of Into the Woods in Regent’s Park and a fast-paced revival of Passion at the Donmar Warehouse. Daniel Evans, a Tony nominee for Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, has signed on to play Bobby in a revival of Company at Sheffield's Crucible Theater in December 2011, directed by Jonathan Munby.
