Tickets are now on sale for that famous farcical comedy of manners The Importance of Being Earnest. Performances of the Oscar Wilde favorite will begin at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre on December 17 ahead of a January 13, 2011, opening. Tony winner Brian Bedford does double duty as director and "leading lady," reprising his acclaimed performance as the formidable dowager, Lady Bracknell.
In The Importance of Being Earnest, dashing men-about-town Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff pursue fair ladies Gwendolen Fairfax and Cecily Cardew. Matters are complicated by the imaginary characters invented by both men to cover their on-the-sly activities—not to mention the disapproval of Gwendolen’s mother, Lady Bracknell. As previously announced, Broadway favorite Dana Ivey will star as Miss Prism, Paxton Whitehead as Reverend Chausible, Santino Fontana as Algernon Moncrieff, David Furr as Jack Worthing, Tim MacDonald as Merriman, Paul O’Brien as Lane, Charlotte Parry as Cecily Cardew and Sara Topham as Gwendolyn.
