The casting directors for the Broadway productions of American Idiot, A Behanding in Spokane and A View from the Bridge were among the winners of the Casting Society of America’s 26th annual Artios Awards. The bi-coastal award ceremonies were held November 1 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, hosted by comedienne Lily Tomlin, and at the American Airlines Theatre in New York. Guest presenters in New York included David Duchovny, Carla Gugino, John Benjamin Hickey, Anthony Mackie, Aasif Mandvi, Elizabeth Marvel, Zachary Quinto, Christina Ricci, John Slattery and Lili Taylor.
In addition, Jeffrey Wright presented the New York Big Apple Award to Tony Kushner, whose Angels in America is currently running off-Broadway at the Signature Theatre Company.
Presented yearly for outstanding achievement in casting, awards are given on the criteria of originality, creativity and contribution of casting to the overall quality of a project. The term “Artios” is from the ancient Greek word meaning “perfectly fitted.”
