After a week of previews, Atlantic Theater Company’s double bill of plays by Harold Pinter, The Collection and A Kind of Alaska, has announced a one-week extension. The production began performances on November 3 and will open on November 22 at Classic Stage Company, where Atlantic is in residence while its mainstage theater is being renovated. The limited engagement will now play through December 19, directed by Karen Kohlhaas.
The Pinter plays feature previously announced cast members Larry Bryggman, Matt McGrath, Lisa Emery, Rebecca Henderson and Darren Pettie.
In the first major New York production of the Nobel Prize-winning playwright’s work since his death in 2008, Atlantic has paired The Collection (1961), in which a 4:00AM phone call and surprise visitor set off a series of conversations about potential infidelities among two couples; and A Kind of Alaska (1982), which was inspired by the work of Oliver Sacks in his seminal book, Awakenings. In 2005, Atlantic successfully paired Pinter’s The Room and Celebration.
