Will big-time comedian Chris Rock have the acting chops to make his Broadway debut a hit? Bobby Cannavale, his co-star in the upcoming The Motherf**ker With the Hat, thinks so.
“Chris Rock is gonna bring it!” Cannavale told Broadway.com. “He’s going to be great.”
Rock and Cannavale are co-starring in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play about relationships affected by addiction, which also features Elizabeth Rodriguez, Annabella Sciorra and Yul Vasquez. “It’s one of the best plays I’ve ever read in my entire life,” exclaimed Cannavale. “I’m very excited.”
But what about that unprintable title? “I don’t think there’s ever been a title like this on Broadway,” Cannavale said. “And this is the second play that I’ve ever been in with the word ‘f**k’ in the title. I was in F**king A, and now I’m in The Motherf**ker with the Hat, so now I’m going to try to make it like a thing: I’ll be that guy that’s in all the curse-word plays.”
The Motherf**ker with the Hat, directed by Tony winner Anna D. Shapiro, is set to start performances on March 22, 2011 at the Schoenfeld Theatre. Cannavale is appearing in the Encores! presentation of Bells Are Ringing, starring Kelli O’Hara and Will Chase, at New York City Center from November 18-21.
