Liz McCartney will return to the role of opera diva Carlotta and Sean MacLaughlin will assume the role of romantic lead Raoul in the Broadway company of The Phantom of the Opera on December 6. Current cast members Patricia Phillips and Ryan Silverman will play their final performances on December 4 at the Majestic Theatre, where Phantom will mark its 9,500th performance on November 29.
McCartney first played Carlotta from June 1999 to April 2001 after a stint in the show’s ensemble. Her other Broadway credits include South Pacific, Taboo, Mamma Mia!, Dance of the Vampires, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Les Miserables.
MacLaughlin was the final Raoul in the recently completed Phantom national tour, which he joined as an ensemble member in 2007 before spending a year and a half as Christine’s suitor. His Broadway credits include The Woman in White, Bombay Dreams and Lestat.
Continuing in the Broadway company of Phantom are Hugh Panaro (the Phantom), Sara Jean Ford (Christine), George Lee Andrews (Monsieur André), David Cryer (Monsieur Firmin), Cristin J. Hubbard (Madame Giry), Evan Harrington (Piangi) and Heather McFadden (Meg Giry). At certain performances, Marni Raab plays Christine.
The Phantom of the Opera became the longest-running show in Broadway history on January 9, 2006, and has since played an additional 2,000 performances.
