Ellen Burstyn and Carol Kane will join Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss in the previously announced West End production of Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour. Bryony Hannah and Tobias Menzies will also appear in the production, which is directed by Ian Rickson. The Children's Hour will begin performances on January 22, 2011 and open on February 9 at the Comedy Theatre.
Burstyn, who will play Amelia Tiford, is an Academy Award winner for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. She has received six other Oscar nominations for her work in Requiem for a Dream, Resurrection, Same Time, Next Year, The Exorcist and The Last Picture Show. She won a Tony Award for Same Time, Next Year and has also appeared on Broadway in Fair Game, 84 Charring Cross Road, Shirley Valentine, Shirmada, Sacrilege and Oldest Living Confederate Tells All.
Kane will take on the role of Lily Mortar. Her Broadway credits include Wicked, Sly Fox, Ring Around the Bathtub and The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. She is best known for starring on TV's Taxi. She received an Academy Award nomination for Hester Street and has also appeared in Annie Hall, Dog Day Afternoon, The Princess Bride and The Addams Family's Values. Kane recently appeared in off-Broadway's Love Loss and What I Wore.
Hannah, who will play Mary Tilford, has appeared on the London stage in Earthquakes in London, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Pillowman and War Horse. Menzies, who will play Dr. Joseph Cardin, is best known for playing Brutus on TV's Rome. His stage credits include King Lear, Cloud Nine, The Cherry Orchard and The History Boys.
The cast will also feature Nancy Crane as Agatha, Amy Dawson as Rosalie Wells and Isabel Ellison as Catherine.
The production will have a limited engagement through April 2, 2011.
