Broadway favorite Idina Menzel will make her debut with the New York Philharmonic in a benefit concert to be held on February 5, 2011. Marvin Hamlisch will conduct the orchestra as they accompany Menzel in a program of classic pop, musical theater songs (including hits from her signature shows, Wicked and Rent) and selections from her solo album, I Stand.
A Tony winner for creating the role of Elphaba in Wicked, Menzel’s theater credits include a Tony-nominated performance as Maureen in the original production and movie adaptation of Rent and off-Broadway productions of The Wild Party and See What I Wanna See. She was featured last season in TV's Glee and headlined the 2009 London concert version of Chess, which was broadcast on PBS.
In addition to composing the musicals A Chorus Line, They’re Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success, Hamlisch is an Oscar winner for the score and title song of The Way We Were and the score of The Sting. He accompanied Menzel when she performed at the recent Broadway-themed concert at the White House.
