A planned West End production of Douglas Carter Beane’s 1997 satirical comedy As Bees in Honey Drown starring Cynthia Nixon has been canceled due to financing problems, according to London’s Daily Mail. The newspaper reports that Nixon and her family were “just weeks” away from moving to London to begin rehearsals for the play, in which she would have starred as charismatic con artist Alexa Vere de Vere.
Nixon had a small role in the original Drama Dept. production of Beane’s play, which ran off-Broadway for a year after a commercial transfer and won an Obie for J. Smith Cameron as Alexa and an Outer Critics Circle Award for Beane.
A Best Actress Tony winner for Rabbit Hole, Nixon most recently appeared on the New York stage in Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2009 off-Broadway premiere of Lisa Loomer’s Distracted. She is best known for playing no-nonsense lawyer Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City.
